Mary Baley : Commercial RE Appraiser Retired  *  Property Owner
A Few Fun Facts:
1. I was present opening day at Disneyland in 1955.  I also later worked there, as did my
uncle, cousin, daughter, and her husband.  Steve Martin was working there during the
same time period.  He worked in the magic shop and did magic tricks for the customers.

2. My family had one of the first personal computers in our home, the IMSAI 8080.  One
could only build it from a kit available at Radio Shack.  People would visit us just to see it.
(This was the former husband, not John, who built it, but you don't have to include that! He
was a programmer.)

3.  I took belly dancing classes when I was in my 20's and did a little dancing on our trip to
Egypt.

Why is Rotary an important part of your life?
John and I have felt very fortunate to have a comfortable life with all we need and more.
We feel that we should share some of this with others, both locally and in other countries
as well.  John's career was a life of service and when he retired, we both wanted to
continue using whatever talents and interests we had to help our community.  We both
greatly enjoy working with our city's youth.  John and I wanted to join a service organization
where we could both be members, and we enjoy the social aspect as well.

Dick Wilson : We Will Miss You!
Rotary in your life:
I was invited to join the Rotary Club of Westminster- Midway City in 1965 by a local School
District official. I was ostensibly representing the relatively new aerospace industry that had
become established across our line in Huntington Beach- McDonnell Douglas Company.

By 1971, the Saturn-Apollo missions to the moon had been accomplished and I segued into
Long Beach, transferring my Rotary Club to the Rotary Club of Signal Hill. I served as Club
President in 1979-80. Then I retired from my field of engineering; rejoined the Rotary Club of
Wesminster- Midway City in 1981, serving as Club President in 1986-87.

In 2004, the Rotary Club of Westminster-Midway City had succumbed to a certain cultural
sect of business residents who were slow to understand the international mission of Rotary. I
then transferred into our Rotary Club of Huntington Beach, where I am now enjoying joint
opportunities for service in the Rotary traditions.

A Few Fun Facts:
Along the way, I have backpacked on many High Sierra Trails with kin and buddies for a
couple of weeks at a time. I converted a Buick 4 door sedan into an aerodynamically-
shaped molded fibreglass body that would sleep two & enabled a cross-country trip plus a
tour into Alaska. It got nicknamed "The Beached Whale".  I donated this to a Rotary Club
raffle several years ago. For several years participated in local "Barbershop" chorus singing.
Dottie Rodgers & I play Dominoes frequently, regularly enjoy Ballroom dancing at the
Huntington Beach Senior Center, try to keep up with our numerous children, grand-
children and great-grand-children, enjoy an orange tree, lemon bush, vegetables & flowers.
Sincerely, Dick Wilson

Note: Dick's responses to the three questions have been left in the letter format that he gave
them, attaching labels only for consistency.  Sometimes a story just shouldn't be interrupted.
